Rhinoplasty Recovery Timeline: What to Expect Week by Week

Immediately after your procedure, you'll have a splint across the bridge of your nose and some swelling or bruising around the eyes is common, this is a normal part of the body's healing response, not a complication. You'll rest at your hotel with daily check-ins from the clinical team.

Bruising typically peaks around day 2–3 and then starts to visibly fade. The splint stays on for about 7 days total to protect the new shape while the bone and cartilage begin to stabilize. Most patients feel comfortable walking around, resting, and managing mild discomfort with the medication provided.

The splint is typically removed around day 7, and most patients are cleared to fly home around day 6–7 after their final check-in. There will still be some swelling at this point, especially at the tip of the nose, this is expected and doesn't mean something has gone wrong.

This is usually when patients start to feel like themselves again. Bruising and the more obvious swelling reduce significantly within 2–3 weeks, and most people feel comfortable returning to non-strenuous daily life and light social situations.

By around 3 months, the majority of swelling has resolved and the nose starts to look close to its final shape, particularly at the bridge. The tip of the nose, which has thicker skin and less blood flow, is typically the last area to fully settle.

Subtle swelling can continue to resolve for up to a year, especially in the tip. The generally accepted point for a truly final result in rhinoplasty is around 12 months, which is also why patience matters more with this procedure than almost any other cosmetic surgery.
